- Live In/Live Out Housekeeper / Houseman. A British businessman requires two Housekeepers / Houseman. Both positions will report to the House Manager and will have responsibility for carrying out the duties traditionally associated with the role of housekeeper/ houseman including detailed cleaning, laundry, shopping and errands, pet care etc.
You will need to have relevant experience, initiative, be highly organised, efficient and confident in all aspects of carrying out housekeeping operations for a reasonably sized residence run to a very high (5 star hotel) standard.
You will be working as part of an internal team and should speak good English.
You will need to be cat and dog friendly as maintenance and care of the principal’s pets is an aspect of the job. The principal travels frequently and when he is travelling you may have responsibility for overseeing care for the house pets on the weekend.
A preparedness to travel with the principal on occasion is not essential but would be a plus.
You will need:- Proven 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Holding a full driving licence
- Precise with great attention to detail.
- Flexible in approach with a “can do” attitude.
- Able to work autonomously.
- Be physically Fit - both houses on the property are on several levels and require active personnel.
- Pet friendly
- A good communicator speaking English to a reasonable standard.
- Preferably a non smoker.
- Ideally computer literate to maintain laundry, cellar and other inventories.
- Ideally able to prepare simple home cooked meals.
- Familiar with ordering items on-line.
- Courteous and polite - understand professional but discreet service requirements and “front of house” image.
- Flexibility to work weekends for days off in lieu when the principal is entertaining.
- Smartly dressed and neatly turned out at all times with a cheerful disposition
- Cleaning and housekeeping upkeep of the houses interiors to a high standard.
- Performing all laundry functions and wardrobe management.
- Preparing light meals and snacks for the principal and visitors.
- Management of, and shopping for, all household supplies and provisioning of food and beverage supplies.
- Management of house pantry and out of date items.
- On-line shopping when required.
- Cleaning of silver.
- Assist with service when principal is entertaining when required (Infrequent).
- Regular ordering and preparation of fresh flowers.
- Accepting and managing deliveries and post.
- Keep basic household expense and accounting records.
- Liaise with any contractors on site if the House Manager is absent.
- Take care of the house pets and any medication, exercise or other pet related duties required including vet visits.
- Monitor and make sure TV/AV Wifi equipment all working as planned and call contractors if not.
- Keep cars stocked with drinks and provisions.
- Cellar inventory and management – wine and cigars.
- Monitor properties security arrangements and be first key holder in an emergency.
- Make sure the house is kept in a good presentational state at all times and make sure guest accommodation always kept fresh and ready.
- Clean and prepare the principals electric canoe for outings and picnics.
- Liaison with the House Manager on any updates to the house digital manual.
- Reasonably assist the house maintenance team with their tasks when the house is quiet over the summer.
- Report noteworthy incidents to the principal.
- Application of any Covid protocols in force.
- Working Day/Hours: 5 days a week plus alternate Saturday mornings.
Hours 9.30 – 18.30 Monday to Friday 9.30 – 13.30 alternate Saturday
Statutory holiday of 20 days + Bank Holidays (days in lieu given for Bank Holidays worked)
Accommodation: Separate private accommodation provided nearby (to be advised) partners welcome
Salary: £45K gross per annum. (Negotiable for right candidate)
