Live In/Live Out House Manager.   A British businessman requires an experienced professional House Manager.  You will be working directly for the Principal overseeing all housekeeping aspects of running and maintaining their main UK residence in Berkshire and assisting with the management of their French Villa.
You will need to have relevant experience, initiative, be highly organised, efficient, and confident and hands on in all aspects of managing the operations of a reasonably sized residence run to a very high (5 star hotel) standard.
The UK property consists of a 11,000 sq ft main house and a 3,500 sq ft guest house and has a staff of up to 5 people including 2 Housekeepers, Maintenance man, 2 Gardeners and a Driver.  The French property currently has 4 internal staff and 1 Gardener. The French property also has an outsourced local management company for local support on staffing and oversight of contractors etc.
Your role would be UK based and would be to source and manage the following for the UK house:  Household personnel, Chefs, Gardeners, Drivers, Maintenance contractors and pet maintenance and support.
You would be expected to assist with the same role in France working alongside the local outsourced management company.
You would be responsible for the orderly operation of the houses and their upkeep. This will involve detailed review of how the staff are operating within the houses and monitoring levels of detailing, cleanliness and provisioning etc. You would need to compile maintenance and repair lists and oversee the completion of these works with the chosen contractors.
As the role is “Hands On” and you would be expected to lead from the front and assist the personnel in each house with whichever of their tasks require action on a daily basis.
You will be expected to carry out shopping tasks and errands for the principal and therefor will require a full UK driving licence.
You will need to have an understanding of formal service, knowledge of the maintenance and care requirements of a home finished to a high standard, knowledge of luxury wardrobe maintenance and VIP guest reception and table service etc.
You will need to be cat and dog friendly as maintenance and care of the principal’s pets is an important function of the job. The principal travels frequently and when he is travelling you will have responsibility for overseeing care for the house pets.
A preparedness to travel with the principal on occasion to holiday rental properties or one of his two yachts would be a plus.
  • Proven 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with the household planning requirements for a HNW Individual
  • Managing household accounts and keeping track of expenses and costs.
  • Holding a full driving licence
  • Preparedness to spend a reasonable amount of time in France.
  • Preparedness to travel to other locations with the principal from time to time.
  • Efficient and thorough in your duties with excellent organisational management skills.
  • Excellent understanding of housekeeping skills.
  • Precise with great attention to detail.
  • Flexible in approach with a “can do” attitude.
  • Not a “clock watcher”.
  • Proactive and able to take initiative.
  • Able to work autonomously and motivate a team.
  • Be physically Fit - both houses on the property are on several levels and require active personnel.
  • Pet Knowledgeable & pet friendly with experience in pet care
  • A good communicator.
  • Preferably a non smoker
  • Computer literate and accomplished in Word and Excel.
  • Familiar with ordering items on-line.
  • Courteous and polite - understand professional but discreet service requirements and “front of house” image.
  • Smartly dressed and neatly turned out at all times.
  • Of a good-humoured and cheerful disposition.

  • Overseeing the running of the houses to a 5 star hotel standard.
  • Managing and guiding the household staff in the efficient execution of their duties.
  • Organisation of staff rotas, holidays, disciplinary etc.
  • Managing household accounts and keeping track of expenses and costs.
  • Performing front of house duties when the principal is entertaining.
  • Supervision of the housekeeping team in maintaining and caring for the property and furnishings and wardrobe items therein.
  • Training of other staff to provide correct levels of service.
  • Compilation and maintenance of a digital house “Manual” for each house with details of all systems and their operation.
  • Liaising with suppliers and contractors for general operation, repairs and maintenance.
  • Carrying out provisioning, general shopping and other errands (including online shopping).
  • Preparing and serving snacks and drinks throughout the day when required.
  • Overseeing and helping to care for the house pets (currently one dog and one cat) to include an element of house and pet sitting when the principal is away.
  • Greeting and receiving guests.
  • The overseeing of, and participation in, all security procedures for the property.
  • To ensure that the property is professionally staffed and is stocked with all necessary items and provisioning to facilitate the smooth day-to-day running of the property as befitting the main home of a HNW Individual.

Working Days/Hours: 5 days a week plus alternate Saturday mornings. Hours 9.30 – 18.30 Monday to Friday, 9.30 – 13.30 alternate Saturdays
Statutory holiday of 20 days + Bank Holidays (days in lieu given for Bank Holidays worked)
Accommodation: 2 bedroom offsite.  Partners, children welcome
Salary: £70K gross, negotiable depending on experience and skills.
