Live In Couple required for a family home in North Yorkshire. Husband, wife, 1 boy, 2 girls, their horses and a dog.
The role is to begin immediately but there will be a big house move to a nearby private estate and larger house (11 bedrooms) in approximately 12 months.
The ideal candidates are energetic and friendly – real ‘do-ers’. A couple with serious efficiency and common sense, willing to roll up their sleeves and work and team players but also run the household impeccably. Ideally looking for a strong Head Housekeeper teamed with a Maintenance & Driver partner.
This is a full-time role to include the management of additional support staff.
The family themselves are wonderful to work for and life at home is full of activity and fun, centered around their 3 young children, their friends, excellent food and comfort. As such, they require a professional experienced couple who can be both hands on and manage the home.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Housekeeping & Inventory Management:
- Cleaning the entire house thoroughly, with the help of additional staff.
- Restock bathroom essentials as needed
- Empty bins, food waste and recycling daily or as required
- Laundry Management: running a highly organised laundry and ironing routine, with a fast turnaround on clothes.
- Ensure a full stock of all household cleaning products
- External Services: Coordinate dry cleaning, clothing repairs and sheet collection for external laundry, when required
- Stock Control: Maintain an immaculate, fully stocked inventory of specific light bulbs, batteries, soap, and toiletries, etc, based on approved lists.
Cooking and Meal Preparation:
- Daily Meals: Prepare daily family meals and assist with basic food prep.
- Entertaining: a cook would be employed for large events.
- Outdoor lunch/dinner setup: help set up outdoor mealtimes and shooting lunches (4 times per year).
- Guests: Provide a warm welcome, greeting guests, carrying bags, and offering tea, whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Driving & Vehicle Logistics:
- School Runs: assist with children’s school drop-offs and collections, at least 3 times per week, (schools up to an hour away),
- Car Maintenance: Take vehicles for MOTs, servicing, necessary repairs and regular car cleaning
Household Administration & Organisation:
Trades Coordination and Maintenance:
- Staff Sourcing and Managing: Independently find and manage additional staff as needed; this could be anything from additional ad hoc help for dinners to additional cleaning staff year round
- Errand running as required
Child Interaction & Teamwork:
- Child Encouragement: Work alongside the family and their Nanny to ensure the children’s areas of the home are tidy and organised.
- Staff Meetings: Actively participate in weekly sit-down reviews initially, transitioning to monthly catchups later.
- Provide occasional childcare services as needed
Relocation Support, (estimated for Christmas 2027):
- Move Logistics: Provide hands-on help organising and managing the upcoming move to the new house.
- Space Planning: identify storage locations and assist in the setup of the new house ahead of the move.
Animal Care:
- Dog and Guinea Pig Care: Handle daily interaction and care responsibilities for family dog and Guinea Pigs
REQUIREMENTS FOR HOUSEKEEPING COUPLE
- Prior experience as a housekeeper within a large private household, cleaning to a very high standard.
- Ability to manage a team underneath them
- Ability to prepare meals (don’t have to be an amazing chef but a basic knowledge of food/cooking is desired)
- Trustworthy, proactive and able to work independently
- Flexibility to adjust hours, as required. For example, when the house is full, an earlier start and later finish may be required with time off in lieu.
- A hands-on approach with a proactive, team-oriented attitude.
- Be able to adapt to change requests at short notice; multi-tasking is key.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays and beyond standard duties when required.
- Good experience in all laundry operations, including washing, pressing and maintaining tidy wardrobes
- Ensuring consistent and clear communication amongst the wider team and employers as required.
- Both must hold a valid, enhanced DBS Certificate and driving licence.
- Couple would be expected to work over either Christmas or New Year
- A car is provided for all work purposes.
- You would be required to work the majority of the Bank Holidays, taking days of in lieu.
Working Days/Hours: 5 days a week, 50 hours a week, Thursday to Monday with one weekend off per month.
Accommodation: 2-bedroom cottage. All bill included. Sorry no dependants but one dog allowed.
Salary: £85K gross per annum to £100K, depending on previous experience.
Pension: with Employer Contribution of 3% of qualifying earnings
