- Live In Assistant Housekeeper/ Handyman Couple required for a Georgian property set in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, south of Stowmarket. There is an Estate Manager and Housekeeper already in place who you will be reporting to, and standing in for in their absence. The Principals are a semi-retired couple in their 60’s. The small estate comprises an 8 bedroom Georgian ex-rectory with five detached cottages for guests, along with swimming pool, tennis court, pool house and equestrian facilities set in 50 acres of paddocks, lawns and formal gardens. There are gardeners also employed. The house is located on the edge of a small village in a rural setting. All the accommodation has recently been redecorated/refurbished. This is a full time residence for the principals and guests stay on average once a month (in normal times). While the duties are separated below they must be interchangeable as required by the principals. The couple must work with the other staff members seamlessly and harmoniously which is of great importance to the principals so you must be team players. To provide 7 day cover you will be asked to work every other weekend in rota with the existing couple.
Assistant Housekeeper duties will include laundry and ironing, cleaning and upkeep of the main house and the 5 cottages, changing bedding, shoe cleaning and taking deliveries and messages. You may also be required to provide administration support to the estate manager and Principals. You will be required to occasionally assist the principal with meal planning and preparation and required to cook the occasional informal meal for the couple and their guests. Also shopping (mainly online). You will be required to work with the gardener to arrange freshly cut flowers to be displayed throughout the property.
Handy Man duties will include general house and estate maintenance, basic plumbing and electrical and pool maintenance, cleaning the vehicles and occasional driving duties when the estate manager is not on duty. Other duties will include maintaining stock of logs for open fires - lay/light/clear, monitoring oil supplies, septic tank and assist the gardeners where necessary so experience with machinery will be very useful. When the estate manager is off duty you will be responsible for overseeing security of the estate and act as first responder to alarms. You will monitor supplies and re-order when required. Look after, walk and pick up after the dogs.
You must both have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar position, excellent spoken and written English, non-smokers, clean driving licences.
Days/Hours of Work: 5 days a week on a rota with the existing couple to cover two weekends a month.
Salary: Up to £70K gross per annum, depending on previous experience
Accommodation: Separate private 2 bed furnished accommodation. Sorry, no dependants or pets.
